Back from the dead

Man, it’s been a while since I last updated and a lot has changed for me since then. First of all as you can see this blog has gotten a complete face lift. I wanted a to put together a design that would be simple on the eyes yet still go along with the feel of my portfolio site. A HUGE thanks goes out to Matt Johnston for helping me with the development and formatting of the new design, without him I would have been lost.

Among some of the bigger changes, in October I left VPI and accepted a position at Springbox in Culver City. Although I was still living in OC and making the 2-hour commute each morning and evening I have enjoyed getting to know the team and settling in, all while losing terribly to everyone at foosball. Last month I made the move from the OC to Downtown LA. This was a huge change for me coming from suburbia and moving to a city. I have always wanted to experience city life and my loft is perfect for what I’ve been looking for. You can see some photos of my place on the right.

With all that being said, I plan to start shooting photos again as much as possible (hence the integration of Flickr in my blog) and write much more frequently that I did previously. I look forward to writing more about design, Los Angeles, experiments and anything else that comes to mind. If you’re interested in reading a bit about my perspective on design and other issues, my adventures or lack thereof then bookmark, come back often and comment. Any feedback on the new layout, form or function wise would be much appreciated.

Getting back into it…

I have always had a passion for photography since junior high when I discovered my dad’s 1960’s Pentax. I began experimenting with that camera taking it to shows and shooting some really bad and occasionally a few decent photos. Before I started pursuing my career in design I took a few classes in college, learned how to process my own film in a darkroom and wanted to pursue photography as a career. I have always loved making images be it in the camera or with a computer. What does this long rant have to do with anything? Well, not too much but thought I’d share a few photos that I took recently at home and in Laguna Beach, CA. I picked up a Canon 30D recently and absolutely love it. Look for a lot more photography showing up here on my blog. Enjoy and comment.

Site Launch

After a few months of hard work and a VERY long work weekend, I launched the Gold Rush Tattoo website for my buddy Colin and the rest of the Gold Rush crew. Go check out their new work and if you’re in Orange County, go check them out and get a tattoo or two.

New Wallpaper

I designed this wallpaper a few months back from a photo that was taken by Sean Rosenthal. Thought I would share it in case anyone wanted to refresh their desktop. Enjoy.

And, this is what I call some dedication. Photos of my Safari tattoo are on the way.*

Might be sarcasm.

I’m a Trajan Fan

Came across this video regarding how much the font Trajan is used in movie poster design and found it to be quite entertaining.  I never realized how much it is used. It is truly a great typeface but wow. Via 37 Signals.
